Dorothea M. Bare Cromer, 88, Station Square Apartments, Altoona, passed away Thursday at home.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of Donato and Sara (Fusco) Giosa. She married Freemont L. Cromer on Sept. 27, 1975, and he passed away April 5, 1995. She previously was married to Sheldon Bare, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters: Linda (Frank) Scalice and Holly Spatafora, both of Altoona; a son, Sheldon Bare of Altoona; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jeanne Green of Altoona.
She was preceded in death by two daughters: Wendy Hainley and Sheila Wahl; two grandsons: David Koeck and J.R. Macak; and two great-granddaughters.
Dorothea was a 1940 graduate of Altoona High School, where she was an active member of her class reunion committee. She had worked as a cook at Wissinger's, a Penn State Altoona fraternity, Sylvania, Altoona Shoe Co. and the Pennsylvania Railroad during WWII. She attended St. James Lutheran Church.
Dorothea was a life member of the Bavarian Aid Society and Juniata VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011, at Leslie E. Axe Funeral Home (www.santellafuneralhome.com). A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at Axe and Santella Family Chapel, 1534 Fourth St., Altoona, by the Rev. Peter Helmers. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery.
