Doris M. Simpson

Doris M. Simpson, age 85, of Tiffin and formerly of rural McCutchenville, died at 11:20 a.m. Thursday, May 19, 2005, at Elmwood at the Shawhan, Tiffin.

She was born July 30, 1919, at home in rural Sycamore to Harvey A. and Bertha M. Meyer Shellhouse and they preceded her in death. She married Harold W. Simpson on Aug. 5, 1945, and he survives. Also surviving are: daughters, Carolyn Cray of Sycamore, and Mrs. Gary (Linda) Gottfried of Tiffin; a son, Jerry (Alda) Simpson of Laurel, Md.; five grandchildren, Cindy Harper, Stephen Cray, Gina Warner, Jeanine Simpson and Diana Simpson; four great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, James Gottfried and Jennifer Norwood; seven step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Florence Palmer of McCutchenville.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Shellhouse, and a sister, Dorothy Beidelschies.

Mrs. Simpson was a homemaker and helped her husband on the family farm. She enjoyed quilting and all types of needlework. She loved all types of music, singing in the church choir and playing the Hawaiian guitar. She also enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, McCutchenville, and the Womens Guild of the church. She participated in the "Kum-Join-Us" Sunday School class.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2005, in the Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, with the Rev. Roy Howell officiating. Burial will be in McCutchenville Cemetery.

Visitation is from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, May 22, 2005, at the funeral home.
