Doris L. Douglas
Doris Lorrene Douglas, 71, of North Platte died Nov. 8, 2003, at Sutherland Care Center in Sutherland.
She was born Dec. 10, 1931, at Rosemont to Leon C. and Ethel A. Clifton Engelhardt. She grew up in the Hastings and Blue Hill area.
In 1948, she married Gerald LeRoy Pearston at Hastings and to this union seven children were born. They later divorced and he died April 9, 1971.
On Sept. 17, 1970, she married George Washington Douglas at Fremont, and to this union a daughter was born. He preceded her in death Feb. 11, 1998.
She worked in numerous jobs, including Western Electric at Omaha, Valley Alleys at Valley, Campbell's Soup Factory and Pendleton Mills at Fremont, the Cedar Bowl Little Kings, the Eagles Club and the Log Cabin all at North Platte. She enjoyed spending time with her family, camping, fishing, cooking and gardening. She was loved very much and will be dearly missed.
Mrs. Douglas was a member for several years in the Moose Lodge Auxiliary, Eagles Club Auxiliary and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
Survivors include six daughters, Michelle (Craig) Bristol, Cheryl Douglas, Tina (Terry) Matthews, all of North Platte, Connie Schwinck of Fremont, Carol Phillips of Lincoln, and Kay (Greg) Tschupp of Newport News, Va.; a son, Charles Douglas of North Platte; two sisters, Shirley (Lee) Paramore of Auburndale, Fla., and Joann Herre of Las Vegas; two brothers, Gary (Luann) Engelhardt of Vancouver, Wash., Sonny (Darlene) Engelhardt of Table Rock, Ark.; three grandchildren, Dennis (Jenni) Phillips Jr., of Lincoln, Stacy (Mike) Haswell of Fremont and Tristan Matthews of North Platte; a great-grandchild, Alexis Haswell of Fremont; three step-grandchildren, Kathy Miller, Christina (Jason) Jean and Donald Bristol, all of North Platte; six step-great-grandchildren, Devin and Abby Jean, Dawn and Bayleigh Bristol, Kyle and Robert Miller.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; an infant son; three sisters, Arlene Hoffman, Althea Engelhardt and Bernice Tobias; and two brothers, Kenneth and Leland Engelhardt.
Memorials are suggested to the Callahan Cancer Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore with the Rev. Bob Payne of the Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore and before services Wednesday.
