Facts and Events
Fresno, Calif. Oct. 25, 1976 Dear Cousin Robert, I was very pleased to hear from you and hope I can help you some, however my mother was 45 years old when I was borne, and our house burned down when I was 13 so all the pictures and family history was destroyed. I remember my Uncle John visiting us before the house burned but that was the only time I saw him. My uncles David, Frank and James Board had the butcher shop and slaughter house in Linden before our house burned down sometime before that, they sold out. Uncle Dave moved to Humboldt Co, near Iaqua, and Uncle Frank soon followed. Uncle Jim stayed and bought a 40 acre ranch out n. of Linden. Uncle Jim and Aunt Dora lived across the st. from us in Linden and Uncle Frank lived with Uncle Dave and Aunt Marrienne in back of them facing the other st. so I spent a lot of time with all of them. David Board married Marienne Walsh, they had 1 child Mary E. and she married Rudolph Freeman. Uncle Frank married Addie Harris she had been married before and had 1 daughter Jean Harris, then she and Uncle Frank had a girl named Patricia Board, but I understand she died a few years back. Uncle Jim and Dora never had any children. Her maiden name was Duncan. David, Frank and James were my mother "Martha Ann's" brothers. My mother had 4 boys and 3 girls, my sister Gladys 84 and I, 69 are the only ones living now. She should know a lot, but I tried to find out some things about them before and she couldn't remember. Uncle Dave and Uncle Frank were burried in Eureka and Uncle Jim probably in Linden or Stockton. About Grandma and Grandpa Board, they are burried in back of my mother and dad, also some of their children are in Milton, Calaveras County, California. I am sure you can find the records in San Andreas the Calaveras County Seat. Also you could find a lot out at their tombstones in Milton. Lydia Board, my mother's sister was married to William Snow. I have heard my mother talk about her, but can't remember anything about her only that they had an adopted daughter named Ada who married Bruce Orvis. Some of their descendants have the Old Snow Ranch near Milton still. My mother and Dad lived in Salt Spring Valley until I was 1 year old then moved to Linden, but Grandpa and Grandma Board and family had a ranch there, I think across the road and quite close to my folks property. Our old foundation to our house is still on the property. That is in Calaveras Co. between Milton and Angels. Boards, my grandparents had a cattle camp down across the Stanislaus River near Dorrington. They now have a bridge named Boards Crossing. Also a Boards Campground named after them. I was up there in Aug. Have been there 3 times since I learned about it about 6 years or so ago. I have my own trailer but I fell over Labor Day week end and fractured 3 ribs, so have been staying with Shirly, Dick and Ricky and Julie since then. I had a cataract operation a week ago Friday and my flu shots yesterday. My eye Dr. said I can leave in about 4 weeks. I expect to leave somewhere around Nov. 20th if I am able to. I still hope to get to see Roberta before I get away from here. I should like to see Merle. I knew them, but it has been 43 or 44 years since I have seen them. Would love to meet all of you soemtime.
