EDUCATION: Minneapolis High School, attended Emporia State University in Emporia, KS in 1937-39.

SCHOOLTEACHER. Before moving to the "big city" Wichita, she taught school in one of those old one room schoolhouses for two years in 1935-37. The name of the schoohouse was Germany, near Bennington, KS. She used the money she earned to help finance her education at Emporia State University.

WICHITA. After attending Emporia State University, she moved to Wichita to live and work. This is where she met Norris Taylor, Sr.

OTHER INTERESTS: A talented piano player, who always had a piano at home. A talented artist, who experimented with many mediums, but best known for her oil paintings, many of which are in homes of relatives.

MANHATTAN - Doris L. Taylor, 86, died April 1 at Meadowlark Hills Homestead House in Manhattan. She was born May 11, 1917, on a farm near Ada, the daughter of Arthur and Inez Hallock Baldwin. She attended schools in Minneapolis and earned a teaching certificate from Emporia State Teachers College. She married Norris M. Taylor Sr. Nov. 12, 1942. He died June 24, 1997. A resident of Manhattan since 1993, coming from Wichita and Great Bend, she taught in a one-room school house in Bennington and Miltonvale and worked for Boeing until her marriage. Mrs. Taylor was a member of United Methodist Church in Wichita.

Survivors include two sons, Norris M. Taylor Jr. of Lenexa and Cash Taylor of Derby; three daughters, Tamara Tami Yeager of Manhattan, Cynthia Taylor-Dudding of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Terryl Quinn of Denver, Colo.; one brother, Robert Baldwin of Salina; three sisters, Marilyn Thomas of Clay Center, Irene Richardson of Las Vegas, Nev., and Marjorie Dickson of San Diego, Calif.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Gilbert Baldwin; and two sisters, Grace Voran and Fern Bradley.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel in Manhattan, with the Rev. Victor Force officiating. Memorials are suggested for Alzheimer?s Association or Meadowlark Hills Foundation, both in care of the funeral home.
