They both attended Milton College for a year and a half and then spent the next few years in New Jersey, returning to Milton in 1927. They had been Milton residents since 1927, and moved to Park Falls in the fall of 1984 to be near their daughter, Beverly, and her husband, Dr. Stephen Thorngate, who is practicing surgery there.
She was an active member of the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church, serving as Sabbath School teacher and librarian and held various offices in the Women's Circle. For many years she was active in the Women's Village Improvement Club. She later took library training and served as librarian at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and later at Milton Public Library.
