Dora was a waitress in Connecticut when she met her first husband CassieMoore Eddings. He was in the service. Dora eventually went out toCalifornia where Cassie died while Dora was pregnant with their 3rdchild. She had to accompany her husbands body back on a 3 to 5 day traintrip across country with 2 small children & expecting. To make the tripharder her son Lester was suffering from rickets and could not walk. Thebaby, Roberta, was born with a birth defect and Dora couldn't care forher. So Roberta was given up for adoption.

Dora got a job as a waitress in Virginia or North Carolina (oh how Iwish I had listened closer to those stories). The place Of business paidher way on a boat. That is where Herbert was, she saw him and asked himif he liked chicken, put her hand on her hip and said then take a wing.Somehow from that they got married.

Dora worked as a cashier for H.P. Hood Milk Co. for many years andretired in the late 1960's. She sold the house on Boyton Street inWaltham, in the 1970's and moved into an apartment. She loved to knitand crochet and I could never begin to imagine all the things she made. She sold most of it and gave the money to the Beth Eden Baptist Church. She also made afghans for many years that she donated to the Channel 2Auction (the public television station) in Boston.

After Dora retired she learned to bowl candlepins and joined severalleagues and was on some for twenty years. She had several trophies toshow for it.
