Donald W. Hillman, 79, of Oak Harbor died Wednesday at The Toledo Hospita l.

He was born in Oak Harbor, a son of Wm and Orlena Mae (Miller) Hillma n. He married the former Jo Ann Tucker on Oct. 11, 1947 in Maysville, Ky ., and she survives.

After graduating from Oak Harbor High School, where he was a state hurdle r, Don enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served from 1943 to 1945. Havi ng been sworn in by his uncle, Wm Miller, he served aboard the USS S an Jacinto during World War II in the Pacific theater. Don enjoyed attendi ng the USS San Jacinto reunions each year and visiting with Navy friend s. He was a member of American Legion Post 114 and VFW Post 8732, bo th of Oak Harbor.

Don retired as a mechanic and school bus driver for Benton-Carroll-Salem S chools. He also was employed by Ray's Electronics for many years.

He was active in the youth baseball program for many years in Oak Harbor a nd enjoyed bowling and fishing. During his retirement, he was active in vo lunteer work for Mobile Meals and the American Red Cross. He enjoyed havi ng coffee and visiting his friends daily at Kozy Korners Restaurant.

Surviving Don, along with his wife, are son, Charles (Nancy) Hillman, O ak Harbor; daughters, Jacquelin (Charles) Dicken, Bowling Green, and Don na McCleese, Fremont; grandsons, Brian Dicken, Nicholas (Heather) Hillma n, Jonathan Hillman, Matthew Hillman, Jason Phillips, Christopher McClees e, Kevin McCleese and granddaughter, Wendy (Daniel) Hillyard; great-grandd aughters, Erika, Hannah and Bailey Hillman, with a fourth great-grandchi ld expected in March; and sisters, Leila Tack and Beverly Foreman, bo th of Oak Harbor.

Visitation: 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Crosser Funeral Home, Oak Harbor.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. John W. Bock of S t. Paul United Church of Christ, Oak Harbor, will officiate.

Burial: Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor, with military graveside rites by VFW P ost 8732 and American Legion Post 114.

Memorials: American Heart Association or to the Ottawa CO Historical S ociety.
