Donald B. Hess, of Hanover, loving husband of Shirley Ann Dietz Hess, entered into God's eternal care, August 3, 2011, in New Oxford, following a period of declining health.
Born on June 2, 1927 in Mayberry, MD, he was a son of the late Lloyd and Annie Calvin Hess.
Mr. Hess had been employed for several years by Clarence Reck, Littlestown. He later spent the majority of his working career in Frederick, MD, where he was employed by Nationwide Insurance as a claims adjuster for almost 30 years before retiring in 1990.
Mr. Hess had a passion for antique cars, having fully restored six in his lifetime. Several of the cars that he restored were sold in Europe and he once owned the second Model T ever made. He was a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America and the Model T Club of America.
In addition to his wife of 46 years, he is survived by a son, Donald T. Hess and wife, Marie of York; a daughter, Stephanie M. Brennan and husband, Patrick of Keedysville, MD; five grandchildren; and two brothers, Richard Hess and wife, Beatrice, of Westminster, MD and Leo Hess of Taneytown, MD.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, John Hess.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. August 6, 2011, at Panebaker Funeral Home, Hanover, with The Rev. Larry M. Estepp officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul's (Dubs) Lutheran and Reformed Cemetery.
