Born Jan. 31, 1898 in Kendallville, he was the son of Eugene and Olive (Weaver) Herb. He married Olive Strater in 1924. She died in 1956. He then married Eva Ott Surfus in 1966. A lifetime resident of the area, he was a retired major in the Army Air Force and a veteran of WW I and II. He invented the 10-cent bomb sight which became profitable during the war. He was a member of the First Christian Church and American Legion Post 86 in Kendallville and Masonic Lodge 451 in Rome City. Surviving are his wife; one son, Donald P. Jr., Fort Wayne; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Phillip (Nancy) Kirk, 218 E. Lisle St., and Mrs. James (Marianna) Yater, Greenwood; one sister, Mrs. Ruth Guth, Mishawaka; one half-sister, Mrs. Mary Jean Carter, 445 Freeman St.; and 12 grandchildren. Services will be Monday in Berhalter-Hutchins Funeral Home. Burial, Lake View Cemetery. + 5-?-1974 |
