2003 - Obituary: Donald C. Chandler, 82, of Lewiston, NY, died Friday, January 3, 2003, in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, after a long illness. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on September 14, 1920, the son of Cecil and Lena [Whalen] Chandler, where he attended local schools. He was a graduate of Clarkson College with a BS degree in Civil Engineering. After honorable discharge from the United States Army, in 1943, he worked for the Bell Aircraft. He also worked for the Stone and Webster in Boston, Mass. Mr. Chandler returned to Lewiston, NY, and joined the Engineering Department at Hooker Chemical Corporation. After 33 years he retired from Occidental Chemical Corporation in 1980, as Senior Principal Civil Engineer. He received his New York State Professional Engineer Licensee in 1957. He was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church and also the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston. Surviving is his wife of 58 years the former Ethyle R. Nickerson; a daughter Peggy [ Howard ] Jacobs, of Dansville, NY; two sons, Philip [ Londa ] Chandler, of Greenwich, RI; Jeff [ Kathy ] Chandler, of Idaho; a sister, Joyce MacDiarmid, of Dresden, Maine; 11 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and 1 niece. There will be no prior visitation. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Monday January 13, 2003, at 1 p.m. at the Messiah Lutheran Church, 915 Oneida Street, Lewiston, NY. Should friends desire memorials may be made to the Lewiston Fire Company, # 1, Ambulance Fund,145 No. 6th Street, Lewiston, NY.
