    1778
20 June born and baptized Dominicus the illegitimate son of Catherina Watrin, not of the name of the deceased citizen Crutz, as the father/as [illegible] the midwife Junita from Ore mother in [painful?] childbirth from above questioned [bottom part of this record is torn]. [Loosely translated from Latin by Lauri Doll]
I believe that it is saying that the midwife questioned Catherina, during labor, as to the name of Dominiques father. I have read that they often did this because it was felt that a woman would tell the truth during the pains of childbirth, also the town did not want to be responsible for the financial burden of an illegitmate child. Samson Cruz could not have been his father as he died a full two years before Dominique's birth.
