Retired real estate executive Trusty dies
Dirk Elvin Trusty Sr., a retired real estate executive, died Tuesday at an area hospital. He was 71.
Trusty, a native of New Hampton, Iowa, and a longtime resident of Mobile, was owner and president of Pope, Quint & Trusty until retiring in 1987.
Trusty joined the company, then known as Pope & Quint Gallery of Homes, around 1960 as a sales associate and was named vice president in 1965. He became executive vice president in 1975. In 1980, he was named president and chief executive officer.
During his long career in residential real estate, Trusty was active in numerous civic and professional activities. He was a board member of the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce. Other affiliations included the Mobile/Pensacola Better Business Bureau, Junior Achievement of Mobile and Mobile Area Boy Scout Council. In 1987, he was elected president of the South Alabama Arthritis Foundation.
A past president of the Mobile County Board of Realtors, Trusty later served on the organization's board of directors. He was named Realtor of the Year in 1978. He was also a charter member of the Real Estate Leaders of America and a past president of Sales Marketing Executives of Mobile. He had been a member of the Homebuilders Association of Metropolitan Mobile.
He was also a member of a mystic society and the Country Club of Mobile.
Trusty received his degree in economics from the University of Miami. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and served a tour of duty in Erlangen, Germany.
Visitation will be Saturday from 2 p.m. until the 3 p.m. memorial service at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Ascension Funeral Home on Hillcrest Road is handling arrangements.
