25 Jan. 1905: JAMES PIERSALL ARRESTED. --- He Is Charged With Wounding a Man and Assaulting Two Women. --- Lexington, Ky., Jan. 21.--A Negro assaulted and beat into insensibility Mrs. R. L. Jones, assaulted Mrs. Chas. Wagoner, shot and probably mortally wounded Charles Wagoner, who attempted to protect his wife, and attempted to assault other women. Jas. Piersall was arrested on suspicion and taken to Louisville for safe keeping. Louisville, Ky., Jan. 21.--James Piersall, charged with shooting and wounding C. T. Wagoner and with assaulting Mrs. Wagoner and Mrs. R. L. Jones, was brought to Louisville. After being placed in jail, Lexington and Louisville officers "sweated" him for several hours and finally, at a late hour, made a partial confession. Piersall admitted that he shot Wagoner and also that he beat and struck the two women, but stoutly denied that he had criminally assaulted Mrs. Wagoner, or that he had any criminal intentions toward either of the women. He claims that in each instance his motive was robbery.
