    Raney was a rancher on the family farm most of his life. He attended Union Schools and was a member of New Hope Baptist church No. 3.

    He had been precinct chairman for the Democratic party for many years and was president of the Macedonia Cemetery Association. He was a member of the Stephens County Historical Commission and Historical Society.

    He married Inez Ladeane in 1983 at New Hope.

    Survivors: his wife; son - James Lewis Raney; daughter - Ann Gorrell; brother - Weldon Leonard of Breckenridge; three sisters - Velma Caraway of La Casa, Oral Templeton of Ranger, Nolie Martin of Clyde; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
