Obituary published Jan. 24 2007 in the Pilot Independent Della Nadine Koons, 85, , of Longville, Minn., died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd. She was born Sept. 1, 1921, in Deeth, Nev., to Paulus and Maude Ethel (Barton) Svedin. She grew up in Deeth and attended country school there, then graduated from high school in Wells, Nev. She went on to Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and became a teacher and taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Hallock, Nev. She married William Walter Koons Feb. 18, 1944, at her parent's home in Deeth. She later worked as a bookkeeper for the University of Illinois, for Bailey and Hines, and for her husband at their Phillips 66 Service Station. She also shared ownership in and responsibility for Twin Pines Resort on Mule Lake near Longville and the Standard Station in Longville. She was a loving and hardworking person who enjoyed knitting, crocheting, crossword puzzles and playing cards. Her favorite saying was, "If you can’t say something good about someone, don’t say anything at all!" She especially loved her grandchildren and her family and was devoted to her husband of more than 62 years. She was a faithful member of the Mormon Church and also was a member of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Walter Svedin; and two sisters, Iona Uhlig and Carrie Fitch. Funeral services were held Jan. 22 at the Longville Community Church with Maurice Schwartz officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Longville. Thomas-Dennis Funeral Home of Walker and Longville handled arrangements. |
