- Debra Ann Coe (Mims) Nelson 75, Springfield, Mo, died on June 14, 2015 two days before her 76 birthday, at Cox South Hospital after a long battle with cancer.
She was born June 16, 1939, in Ames, Iowa, the only child of Dr. Roland T. and Allene (Hosteter) Coe. She grew up loving the water and was very active in swimming, diving, and skiing on the Mississippi with family and friends. Debra graduated from Ames High School and attended the University Iowa where she continued her love for diving. She married Richard A. Nelson November 23, 1958, in Ames, Iowa. She was a stay at home mother for 15 years then decided she wanted pursue the fashion industry. She spent several years as secretary for the Lake Petersburg Association. Debbie got back into the fashion business and spent nearly 30 years with Famous Barr now known as Macy's. She spent her married life in Petersburg, IL, then relocated to Springfield, MO. She loved to play golf, swim & ski. She loved to play bridge but played it too fast for some of her partners and she really enjoyed her good friends in the Red Hatters Club. She is survived by her son, Keith A. Nelson; granddaughter, McKenzie Lyn Nelson; sonin-law Jack R. Funkhouser; grandsons Brandon C. Funkhouser (Susan); Collin R. Funkhouser (Meghan); and Aaron R. Funkhouser. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her daughter, Linda Sue Nelson Funkhouser. Inurnment in White Chapel Cemetery east of Rogersville.
