    Day Hort Macdowall was born on 27 March 1753.2 He was the son of William Macdowall, 18th of Garthland and 2nd of Castlesemple and Elizabeth 'Black Bess' Graham.3,4 He married Wilhelmina Graham, daughter of William Graham, 2nd of Airth and Ann Stirling, on 7 November 1791.2 He died on 16 June 1809 at age 56.2
    He was in the Bengal Civil Service.2 He purchased Castlesemple.2 He lived at Walkinshaw, Renfrewshire, Scotland.2
