How lucky we all were to have him for a father! Lover of cats and flowers, respected teacher and coach, honorable gentleman. Scholar , reader, generous, survived being left with five children - ages 7 (that's me) to seventeen when his wife died. He cared for his brother who had a lingering illness.He made 

 all repairs around the house, upholstered the furniture, wallpapered, painted, and retained his own quiet dignity. He was a graduate of Amherst College and a straight A student. He let us find our own way but was always supportive.
