th relatives of his mother. He married Ruth Cottle in Monroe Co. Jan 13, 1
    789.
Ruth died in Harrison Co, about 1815 and David moved to Nicholas Co. whe
re he married Christina O'Dell Aug 3, 1817. Christina a daughter of Jeremi
ah and Rachel Walters O'Dell was born in 1788.

According to the Greenbrier County Surveyors Land Book Nbr. 2 page 163, Da
vid had property surveyed October 29, 1791, at the "sinks" adjoiing John W
allace, Matthew Dunbar, and Patrick Boyd. In 1801, a land grant was issu
ed to David for 110 acres at the head of Broad Run, a tributary of Wolf Cr
eek. This would be just west of Union, the county seat.
It is here at Union that the Rehobeth Church was founded in 1784 maki
ng it the oldest Methodits church west of the Allegheny mountains. T
he 48 year old widower married the 27 year old Christina Odell on 3 Aug 18
    17. the marriage by the Rev. Josiah Osborne was recorded in Greenbrier Cou
    nty.
The marriage may at first have been more for convenience than love. David
's children still at home were William, 18 yrs, Nancy 14 yrs, Ruth, 12 yr
s, David Jr, 10 yrs, and Malinda 7 yrs. Christina brought her 2 yr old so
n, Grandson to David's farm on Bacus Run. A McCutcheon is said to have be
    en the father of Grandison.
The Nutters were active in the Bethel Methodist Church at Poe on Laurel Cr
eek. This is the oldest church, 1810 in Nicholas County. According to chur
ch records, David was elected senior class leader in 1821. The farm of Bac
kus Run was sold to A.N. Ripitoe.
David bought property at Hominy Falls from his father-in-law, Jeremia
h, in 1827 and may have lived there for a short while but in 1833 he purch
ased 200 acres from Conrad Fisher that adjoined John Hamhdn's southwest co
rner at Keslers Cross Lanes. Matthew, son of David, made his home in th
    is area.
Burial: David apparently died in 1851 because his farm at Keslers Cross La
nes was sold in June 1851. His grave has not been located but it is a go
od guess that he rests in an unmarked grave at Poe about 1/4 mile ea
st of Bethel Church. This abandoned cemetery must also be the resting pla
ce of many Dorseys, Walkers, Browns, and Bakcuses, all in unmarked grave
    s.
Conflict: IGI shows birth county to be Wicomico county, Maryland and bir
    th year to be 1770.
