When he attended school he went by the suranme of Deardorff sometimes and other times used Sweeney. He attended school with both his step brothers and step sisters along with his half brothers and half sisters. John Rosebrook Deardorff never seemed to claim his as his son. He is not listed in his fathers obit.

David Orlando Deardorff, was a kindly man, devoted to his home and family.

  A woodworker by trade, his skilled workmanship was such in demand, doing scrollwork of various kinds, both in furniture and buildings.
  He was a lover of nature and the great outdoors--and took great pleasure in taking his children on outings, fishing and hunting trips.
  He taught them where to look for the likeliest fishing spots, the homes of wood creatures, the different kinds of birds and how to distinguish the different kinds of trees by their bark and leaves and all plant life.
  He had a keen sense of humor, often telling of the jokes he played on himself.
  He enjoyed the simpler things of life and a host of friends.
  Before he passed away at the age of 75 years, he requested that
                      "There be no moaning at the Bar
                        When I put out to sea."
