Devoy served his country in the World War II as Sergeant in the US Army, from 20 February 1942 until 11 October 1945 in the Pacific Theater


Mr. Devoy Coble, 88, of 4227 Bass Mountain Road, Snow Camp, died at the Presbyterian Home of Hawfields on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at 4:45 p.m. following two years of failing health.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Dorothy McKenzie Coble, who survives, and the son of Frank Ervin Coble and Ada Dean Allen Coble, both deceased. He graduated from Alexander Wilson School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army with the rank of Sergeant serving during World War II. He retired from the Alamance County School System. He was a lifelong member of Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Toni Coble Holland and husband, Jonathan, of Lenoir; one son, Mr. Larry Dean Coble and wife, Diana, of Southport; one sister, Mrs. Hilda Coble Mauney of Graham; four grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Devan LaPrade.

The funeral will be conducted at Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 23, 2006 at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Joe Wilburn. Burial will follow in Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service. Church members who are veterans are asked to sit together as honorary pallbearers . The family will receive friends at Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service, and at other times they will be at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church, 4178 Mt. Hermon-Rock Creek Road, Graham, N.C. 27253; to the Presbyterian Home of Hawfields, 2502 N.C. 119 South, Mebane, N.C. 27302; or to the Alamance County EMS, P.O. Box 173, Graham, N.C. 27253.
