According to his Revolutionary War pension application, he migrated from Virginia to North Carolina "about 13 years after the close of the war" (i.e., abt 1794?), and then moved to Tennessee in 1807. But since his marriage to his 4th wife took place in Iredell County, North Carolina, this is probably a misstatement.
