In the Norwalk Weekly Reflector-6/21/1864 page three column three... More Pioneers Gone-Mr. David W. Briggs of Greenwich, in this county, died in that township on Wednesday morning, the 15th inst. At the time of his death, he was the oldest resident settler of the township, having settled there in 1818.

History of the Fire Lands

D.W. Briggs came in the fall of 1818, from Washington county, New York, (he was a native of Massachusetts), and made himself a home upon lot thirty six, in section three. He married Alzina, eldest daughter of Ephraim F. Barker, who is still living. Briggs died in 1861. He had thirteen children, nine of whom are living as follows: George, Daniel and Jacob, in the west; Maria (Mrs. J. Woodward) in Hancock county; Sarah (Mrs. J. Haynes) in Greenwich; Bathena (Mrs. C. Platner) in Hancock county; Zoa (Mrs. M. Kahar) in Michigan; Mary (Mrs. A. Warner), in Richland county; and Caroline (Evans), in Greenwich.
