Now my Grandmother Daphne Daisybell McDougall was born out of wedlock to Mary Cockroft three years before the marriage of James and Mary. Daphne's father is not recorded on her birth certificate. She was born in Gordon Street Christchurch 19 July 1895. The marriage took place 1898. It was not until my Grandmother went to apply for her old age pension at age 60 that she found out that she was not the daughter of James McDougall. At this point I am not sure if James adopted my Grandmother or was her stepfather
