Daniel was the first son of Richard and Bethia Dart, and was disinherited by his father. In his will, Richard characterizes his son Daniel as being "an ungrateful and treacherous to me", and accordingly leaves most of the residue of his property to his younger son Richard. (Hemps Diary. p. 125, Oct 8, 1722)

He removed to Bolton and had a large number of descendants there and in the nearby towns.
