PENSION FILE: Daniel was born in the town of Hopkinton RI in 1750. He believed that his birth was recorded in the Town Clerk's Office as well as in his family Bible. At the time he was called into service he resided in the town of Sharon in the State of Connecticut. Since the Revolution, he has resided in the Town of Salem, Washington County, NY. On July 1, 1776, he enlisted as a common soldier in the town of Sharon, State of Connecticut under a Capt. (Lewis) in Col. Fisher Gays Regiment. The Connecticut State troops, for sic months and service as a soldier in said Company & Regiment his time out -- That immediately after enlisting he was marched to the City of New York, from thence to Long Island, then back to New York From thence to Harlem Heights -- That during said campaign, he was in every battle with he enemy which was fought on Long Island and in that vicinity, that Com. George Washington was present and commanded the American Army.
That in the month of January 1777, he again enlisted in the Connecticut line of State troops at said Town of Sharon, in Capt. Amos Chappels Company, Col. Samuel (Whittings) Regiment and Gen (Worcester) Brigade -- That he was marched to horseneck, from then to New Rochelle, where he remained in service as a Soldier for three months, the term of his enlistment. That during said term he was engaged in no battles. That his duty consisted in guarding the lines and protecting the Americans and their property from the British and Tories. That in the same year 1777, he was drafted in said town of Sharon for three months and actually served his time out, as a soldier in Captain Fisher['s] Company-- That the company were marched from Connecticut to West Point on the Hudson in the State of New York -- That he was engaged at West Point in drill Service and working on the fort --
That during said year 1777 but what time he does not recollect, he was ordered our as a Soldier by Capt. Fisher and marched first to Rhinebeck and then to Pittstown, Lansingburgh and other places in the Sate of New York for the purposes of serving and protecting the Whigs and their property and that he is in actual service as a Soldier of the United States in the of War of the Revolution as aforesaid at that six weeks and more.
That in the month of February of March 1782, he enlisted again in the Connecticut line of State troops under Capt. Stodard, in Col. Camfields Regiment, for one year, and served the whole year as a Sergeant -- That he preformed military service that year at Stamford, in the State of Connecticut, and in that vicinity was employed in enlisting troops for the Army, in doing guarding duty, and in protecting the country from scouting parties of the British and that he did Serve the United States in the War of the Revolution as a soldier, two years one and a half months, and more as he believes --.... "

Daniel Coon, an orderly sergeants of the Revolution, settled on the farm now owned by a great-grandson of the same name. His sons were Rufus, Samuel, and John. Daughters, Mrs. General Wm. Root; Mrs. Wm. Getty, Hebron; Sarah, married a Merrill, and for a second husband Stephen Rowan. The present owner of the farm is a grandson of Rufus by his son Thomas.

All those pieces of parcels of land lying in said Town of Salem and Beginning on the north Line of Lott number seventy three being the north west corner of land of Rufus Coon at a stake an stones thence Southerly about one hundred and thirty two rods to the land now occupied by Alexander McNish thence west to the Lien of the Town of Argyle but now called Greenwich thence north about one hundred and thirty two rods to a stake and stone being the northwest corner of the aforesaid Lott number seventy three thence east to the place of beginning Containing about ninety acres of land.

Beginning on the South side of lot number 75 on the western boundary line of land owned by Rufus Coon in May 1809 at a stake and stone thence North eighty eight rods tot he Northern boundary line of said lot, thence west 30 Rods to a stake and stone thence South about 40 Roods or 44 Rods thence West sixty eight rods to a stake and stone thence South fifty four rods thence east sixty eight rods to a cross the creek to a stake and stones thence North 18 rods to the Mill dam thence east along the highway to the place of beginning.
