Michigan | Saint Joseph | Herald Press, The | 1960-01-21, pg 10 County Deaths and Funerals BUCHANAN, Jan. 21 - Daniel M Carlisle, 74, of 803 Main st., Buchanan, died at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Pawating hospital, Niles. He had been ill for several weeks. Mr Carlisle was born Feb. 18, 1885 in Buchanan, and had been a lifelong resisdent of Buchanan. He ws the son of the late Ashley and Sarah Carlisle. Mr Carlisle married the former Pearl V. Camfield, Dec. 24, 1919 at San Antonio, Tex. He was employed at Clark Equipment Co for 33 years before retiring in 1953. He was a WWI veteran and a member of the Ralph Rumbaugh American Legion Post. Mr. Carlisle is survived by his widow; a son, William D; two daughters, Mrs Vivian LaValle, Knoxville, Tenn and Mrs Phyllis Berry, Syracuse, NY; a sister, Mrs Tamerson Binns, Buchanan and four grandchildren. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery. Daniel worked at Clark Equipment Co. where they made transmission boxes for cars, forklifts, and parts for the first Diesel Locomotive engine. He built the family a camp out of wood taken from old boxcars. The camp was built at the Main St home and bolted together in such a way that it could then be taken apart in sections. It was then loaded onto a truck and moved to Smith Lake where it was bolted back together. Smith Lake was a small lake, two to three miles from Berrien Center. The lake was owned by Mr. Clymer who leased the land to them. The camp had a well, outhouse, kerosene stove and lamps, and a wood stove for heating. It was used mostly in summer.
