    In a message dated 1/29/2013 3:04:03 A.M. Eastern Standard Time,Susan Brown Davis (sdavis@mpatexas.net) writes:

According to Captain Daniel Brown’s Rev War record, he was born 12/01/1748 and died 07/14/1833 in the Brown Cemetery in Reva, VA. His wife was Elizabeth Hill b. 1764 and she married him at the age of 15 in 1779 (she of William Hill and Miss Wood, and granddaughter of Russell Hill and Miss Towles) . . . . Captain Daniel Brown says
he served in 1775 at Fort Pitt, Pittsburg, Kentucky then in Winter 1777 with Harrod and George Rogers Clark at Harrodsburg, Mercer Co, Kentucky (same place where Carolyn Brown Butler’s WAB moved 1828 to Mercer KY, and there is a John and James Brown b. abt 1755 in Mercer as well, both were at Harrodsburg by 1774-1775).

James Brown’s boys (Daniel, William, James, Archibald, Harvey, Robert and John C. Brown) eventually moved to Hickman and Fulton Co, Kentucky after the death of their father in 1822 Mercer. James’ 1822 Mercer Co KY Will says “my father’s estate in Virginia”.

Additional Note: Captain Daniel also says he served alongside Squire Boone (brother to Daniel Boone).

Captain Daniel and wife, Betsy (Elizabeth) sold their 1400 acres of land in Washington Co KY in 1804 to Richard Cocke in 1804, then moved back to Culpeper Co VA. Coleman Brown was a witness to this sale of land in 1804.

Coleman Brown b. 1750 married Catherine Nalle (Steve’s Ancestor is Coleman Brown in Group 10). Coleman’s boys were: John P. Brown, Thomas C. Brown and Daniel N. Brown and six daughters per Coleman’s 1819 Will.

(NOTE: There is a Richard Cocke, JR on the 1715 Essex County Rent Roll List, so the one in 1804 is a probable grandson to the Richard Cocke who Captain Daniel sold his land to).

    Children of Captain Daniel Brown:

William Brown married Mary Polly Griffin in 1807 (sister of Frances Griffin)
Thomas Coleman Brown b. 1789 married Frances Hill Griffin married 1814 ,and one of his daughters Juliet F. Brown married Robert C.Covington

John Hill Brown married Sarah Hill married 1809 Culpeper (supposedly Group 47 claims this John Hill Brown??? through his son Dr. Mordecai Brown??)

Armistead Brown (Major Brown) married Mary Ann Russell Meredith

Daniel Brown Jr. b. 02/02/1795 married Lucy Powell m. 05/27/1818 Culpepper (possibly she of Ambrose Powell who lived in 1764 Culpeper?)

Russell Hill Brown b. 05/10/1798 married Catherine G. Lewis

Frances Hill Brown married William Slaughter in 1811 Culpeper (William part of Cadwaller Slaughter family)

Mary Ann Brown b. 1801 married Newman Allen 1819 Culpeper

Richard Brown b. 05/10/1800 married Frances M. Hill

Per his REV WAR record, Captain Daniel said he had 5 surviving children and one heir to one of his deceased children. (So, he had a couple of children who had died by time of writing of Rev War papers).
