The Howard Story, by Lewis Edward Howard, April 17, 1981, Topeka, KS

The ancestors of Leona Mae (Peters) Howard will begin with Christopher

Peters, born 1824. The place of his birth and parentage is not well established, but most information indicates he was born and educated in Virginia, probably Huntington, and before West Virginia was organized.

He first married Cynthia Ann Hatfield, born 1824. The marriage took place in

1849. They came to Platte County, Lee Township, near Farley, Missouri in 1856. He purchased 80 acres of farm land and lived on it until his death, July 14, 1898. He is buried in the family plot on the farm. Cynthia died in 1864.

Six children were born to Christoper and Cynthia (Hatfield) Peters.

1. Julius W. Peters married Sarah Anna Penfold. 2. Susan married John Cline 3. John married Dora ------ 4. Elizabeth married Nicholas Bolton 5. Jordan married Lydia Penfold. 6. William died in infancy.
