According to her obituary, Mrs. Ambrose Y. Hart died at her home at 2713 Prairie avenue after an illness of several months duration, with bronchial trouble, malarial fever, and a complication of diseases contributing to her death. "She had been ill since last February, and had been confined to her bed for the past ten weeks. The deceased was born on August 25, 1835, at Gilford, NC. She came to Putnam county, Indiana with her parents when but six weeks old. In 1850 she removed with them to IL. Her maiden name was Cynthia Capps. She was married to her surviving husband Ambrose Y. Hart on Dec. 1, 1852, the ceremony being performed in Cumberland county, IL. The couple spent the greater part of their married life upon a farm in Paradise township, but fifteen years ago removed to Mattoon, where they have since resided. The deceased was a member of the First Methodist Episcopal Church, joining that congregation in 1860. She was a woman of christian character and devoted her life to her family and her church, finding time and opportunity to give helping hand to friends and neighbors. Her husband is in poor health, having been confined to his bed for the past two months. During her illness and just a short time before she died she left instructions for his welfare. Besides her husband Mrs. Hart is survived by three daughters and one son--Mrs. Mary C. Lee of Champaign, Mrs. Lulla James of Champaign county, and Miss Nellie Hart, living at home, and Aaron Hart of Kansas City, MO. She also leaves an adopted grandchild, Fred Grant Hart, living at home. She is survived by two brothers, Hiram Capps of Urbana and Newton Capps of Effingham. The funeral will be held Wednesday..."
