In 1900, "Neal" was in Siskiyou County, CA when he deeded his land in Rockbridge County over to his wife Sarah Jane and their children. Siskiyou is the location of the Gold Rush in 1849. There were several area men there at the time Neal was there. His Grandaughter had said Neal went to Arizona for a time for his health as he had asthma. Siskiyou is in northern CA, next to Oregon. He did return back to the Rockbridge area and was killed in 1908 when he fell onto a saw at a sawmill. Ms. Goodwin sewed his body back together for the burial. We still don't know if Neal went to AZ for his health, then took a trek to Siskiyou as an adventure, if he went there to mine for gold, or just why he was there. He apparently thought it best for his family if he gave them all his real estate in the event he didn't return.
