How Short & hasty is our Life
    How vast our Souls affairs
    Yes Senseless mortals vainly strive
    to lavish out their Years.
    Our Days runn thoughtlessly along
    without a moment's Stay
Just like a Story or a Sond
    we pass our Lives away.

Thus Ends ye Short History of ye life of my poor Bro'r Cordilla. who in ye 23rd Year of his Age Died at Sea his Body Buried in ye Ocean & his Soul Departed into one of those tow Eternal worlds of Spirits where all my Departed friends & Relations are gon to Receive their Rewards according as they have Improv'd yr Short Space of probation.
[The dates given in the diary as 1760 are almost certainly wrong. It is not so clear if the year of death should be 1761 or 1762. Based on his birth in Oct 1738, the 23rd year of his life, as mentioned here, would suggest 1761 is the correct year for the above events, but the Brewster Book says he died in 1762 which suggests all the events should be 1762?]
