In 1908, Willis applied for Indian enrollment for his and Cordelia's children, stating "That I am 34 years of age and claim Indian descent for my children who claim their descent through my wife. My wife claimed her descent through her father, Jackson Lambert. Jackson Lambert's father, Hugh Lambert, claimed Cherokee descent.......Jack Lambert was hung at Bryson City, NC for killing a man, but don't know when that was. He was about 30 years old at the time and it was about 20 years ago. (He) had a brother named Hugh. Hugh Lambert, Jack's father, went out to Washington (don't know what Washington) about 30 or 40 years ago and was in the Indian Service out there. Don't know whether my wife's father had any sister by the name of Nancy or Catherine. My wife was 33 when she died and that was 1903... Mattie Abercrombie, 12 years old; Sarah Elizabeth Abercrombe, 10 years old and Thomas Solon Abercrombie, 7 years old, are my children. SIGNED: Willis Abercrombie, Blue Ridge, GA Jul 13 1908.
