    MRS. J. H. CARROLL DEAD

Mrs. J. H. Carroll died at her residence in Higbee, MO, at 10:30 Friday morning, July 15, 1904, after a protracted illness. Funeral services were held at the house at two o'clock Sunday by the Rev. A. N. Lindsey, after which interment was at the Rennold's cemetery, beside her husband J. H. Carroll, who died Oct. 22, 1891. The funeral was attended by a large number of relatives and friends, whose sympathy went out to the bereaved ones.

Mrs. Carroll, whose maiden name was Cordelia Pitney, was born June 12, 1828, in Coshocton county, Ohio, and moved with her father and mother to Missouri, settling on the land now occupied by Sanford Pitney, where she remained until after the death of her mother, when she returned to Ohio, and there, in 1851, married Worth Hull. To them one son was born, Sanford Hull, who is so well known in railroad construction. After the death of her husband she married J. H. Carroll in Ohio, and they moved to Missouri in 1866, taking up a farm 3 miles southeast of Higbee and lived there until they moved to Higbee in 1879.

The result of this union was seven children, three of whom are still living and with Sanford Hull were at the funeral. They are, Mrs. Ernest Fowkes, wife of the general freight agent of the Wabash and M. K. & T. at Hannibal, and G. A. and J. J.

In early life Mrs. Carroll joined the Christian church in the old Higbee school house and remained a member of that church until death released her from earthly cares. Death resulted from a complication of diseases, from some of which she suffered for years. Mrs. Carroll was well known in this country as one of its earliest settlers. She was an affectionate wife and fond mother, ever ready to sacrifice her own interests and comforts for the benefit of her children, very frequently neglecting herself of their interests.
