    COBURN EASON
    Year's provisions allotted to the widow Elizabeth Eason, Mar. 20, 1804. Dower allotted (Mar. 24, 1804), consisting of 506 2/3 acres on Wards Run Branch and Sherwood Gay, as the share allotted her by the will had been inadequate. Record indicates Samuel Ruffin was admr. Petition (May,1804) for a redivision of estate, stating he died in Sept.,1803 possessed of 1520 acres leaving the following heirs: Joshua Eason, Martha Eason, Polly Eason, Milicent Eason, Betsy Eason, Celety Eason, Ann Bunn Eason and Rebecca Eason, all minors with Abner Eason their gdn. Petition(Nov., 1806) for share of the estate by Rebecca Eason, a minor with Enos Norvell her gdn., stating the dec'd. died "an untimely death" in 1803 leaving a will which had been in the hands of Joshua Barnes. She states the will made no provision for her as she was not born at the time the dec'd wrote it. In the will he apptd. Joshua Barnes and JohnEason (her grandfather and uncle) his exrs.

    In the name of God amen I Coburn Eason of Edgecombe County of State of N.C. being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind & memory - calling to mind the uncertainty of transitory life and knowing it is appointed for all men once to die, I recommend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God, not doughting but at the general resurrection to receive the same & my body I commit to the earth to be buried in a Christian like manner at the discretion of my Executors and as for my worldly estate as it has pleased God to bless me with I give & bequeath in manner & form as following -

    Item - I lend to my loving wife Elizabeth Eason all my lands & plantations the term of ten years, and all the profits there unto belonging only one third of the brandy that shall be made yearly. I also lend my loving wife all my negroes the term of ten years to wit Perry, Demsey, Pegg, Ephraim, Zelle, Sal, Arther Chaney and there increase for that term of time - also that the said negroes shall save the fruit yearly that length of time, like wise I lend my loving wife my brandy still ten years to still & save said fruit - also it is my will & desire that my horse called Barnisedes and six barrels of Brandy should be sold at the discretion of my Executors and after all my just debts are collected & my just debts are paid the money arising from such Sale and all my money remaining shall be equally divided between my loving wife & my Children (to wit) Joshua, Martha Mary, Milicent Elizabeth Bennett and Selety Easons. I also lend all the rest of my property to my loving wife for ten years, also at the ten years end it is my will and desire that all my hole property & estate only my lands and brandy Still shall be equally divided be twixt my loving wife and my children to wit, Joshua, Martha, Mary, Milicent, Elizabeth, Bennett & Selety Eason. I also lend to my loving wife the plantation where one I now live and all the lands adjoining only the land I had of my brother Isaac Eason & Thomas Sheperd at end of ten years, her lifetime.

    Elizabeth Eason was the principal buyer and John Eason, Stephen Eason, Joshua Eason, Isaac Eason, Isaac Eason, Senr., and Abner Eason bought, Aug. Ct. 1804. Audit and settlement of account, Feb. Ct. 1806. Account current of the orphans with Abner Eason, temporary guardian, May 27, 1806, May Ct. 1806. Widow, Elizabeth Eason, now the wife of Enos Norvill, had the Sheriff summons a jury who found that she was not sufficiently provided for in the will. she was awarded an increased amount including her share of the estates of her decd. children, Elizabeth and Seleta Eason. The estate of Coburn Eason, decd., was due a sizeable amount from the estate of John Eason, decd., Aug. Ct. 1806. Division of negroes among the the five lawful representatives, to wit, Benja. Moore in right of his wife, Patsy; Bennet B. Eason; Polly Eason; Milicent Eason; and Joshua Eason, March 10, 1808, May Ct. 1808. An audit was made of the account between the admr. D. B. N. and Enos Norvill in right of his wife, widow of said decd. An infant, Rebecca Eason, was born after the will of the decd. was made but she had since died, March 17, 1808, May Ct. 1808. Account current with Samuel Ruffin, admr. D. B. N. Payment was made to Enos Norvill in right of his wife Elizabeth, settling that part of the estate. A large account was received from the estate of John Eason, decd., Nov. Ct. 1808. Division of money arising from the estate among the lawful representatives, namely, Benjamin Moore in right of his wife, Patsey; Joshua Eason; Polly Eason; Milicent Eason; and Bennet Eason. The amount of Rebecca Eason's estate to which she was entitled by the death of her sister Seleta, was deducted, Feb. 22, 1809, Feb. Ct. 1809. Account current of orphan Bennet Eason with Enos Norvill, guardian. Settlement of account between the parties, Oct. 3, 1816, Nov. Ct. 1816.

    Coburn was a witness on a land deed by Isaac Eason in October, 1785. He was also appointed administrator of the Estate of Isaac Eason, Jr. on the 16 July, 1787. In 1800 census he has five female under 10; one male under 10; one male 10/16; and he and wife were between 26 and 45 years of age. Also owned 8 slaves. The inventory of the estate of Coburn Eason was taken by John Eason, November 25, 1803. John Eason made an account of the sale, March 13, 1804. Elizabeth Eason was the principal buyer and John Eason, Stephen Eason, Joshua Eason, Isaac Eason, Isaac Eason, Sr., and Abner Eason bought. The estate of Coburn Eason, decd., due a sizable amount from the estate of John Eason, decd. August, 1806. Widow Elizabeth has married Enos Norville. Division of negroes was made March 10, 1808 by five heirs; Benj. Moore in right of wife Patsy; Bennet B. Eason; Polly Eason; Milicent Eason; and Joshua Eason. In November, 1808 a large amount was received from the estate of John Eason, decd. The final settlement of the estate was made October 3, 1816.
