Clyde Hill, a former Speaker of the Kansas House, died Sunday at his home. He was 79.
A Republican, Hill served in the House for 20 years ending in the mid-1970's and also was Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee. He practiced law in Yates Center.
Hill was a 1940 graduate of Washburn University School of Law and an Army veteran of World War II.
He was born Nov. 18, 1912, at Rose, the son of George and Edie B. Crumrine Hill. He had lived in Woodson County most of his life.
He was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church, Gilead Lodge No. 144 AF & AM of Yates Center, Scottish Rite of Fort Scott, Mirza Temple of Pittsburg and the Kansas Bar Association.
He married Mildred Landis at Topeka in June 1951. She died July 15, 1975.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirlie Vaughn, Lawrence; a sister, Lois O'Keefe, Lincoln, Neb.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist church in Yates Center. The Revs. Judy Culver and Nancy Shank will officiate. Burial will be in the Yates Center Cemetery. Campbell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
