Born in Surry County, he was the husband of Nell Coble Boggs who survives, and the son of Columbus Jackson and Nelia Ross Boggs. He was retired from Western Electric where he was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a member of Andrews Memorial Baptist Church where he was a member of the Golden Agers. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, and received the Purple Heart. Survivors other than his wife of the home include two daughters, Sylvia (Chris) Teague of Snow Camp and Linda (Steve) Smith of Haw River; two sons, Vernon Boggs of Haw River and Ray (Kimberly) Boggs of Southport; a stepdaughter, Sue (David) Malone of Haw River; a stepson, Jimmy D. (Karen) Crawford of Burlington; seven grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren and two greatstepgrandchildren; three sisters, Annie Armstrong of Mebane, Katie (Don) Bowden of Elon and Virginia (Larry) Terrell of Burlington; two brothers, Howard "Happy" (Gail) Boggs of Graham and George "Joe" Boggs of Chapel Hill. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mary Wilson, Edith Boggs and Jean Williams; and two brothers, Roy Boggs and Fred Boggs. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2005, at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by Dr. Tommy Willis. Burial will be in Salem United Methodist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at McClure Funeral Home in Graham from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at the residence. References
