Clifford Goodrich, well known local businessman, died Sunday at the Valley County Hospital. Mr. Goodrich suffered a coronary, Friday evening, while working in his garden, and was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Seventh Day Baptist Church in North Loup with the Rev. Duane Davis officiating. Mrs. Jeneane Abel sang "In the Image of God" and "Beyond Tomorrow," accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Louise Brennick. Pallbearers were William Vodehnal, Jack Portis, Dale Stine, Harold Fisher, George Dworak and Clarence Fox. Honorary pallbearers were Al Sims, Harold Hoeppner, Paul Jones, Dr. F. L. Blessing, R. H. Peterson and Harlon Brennick. Interment was in the Hillside Cemetery with the Hastings-Pearson Mortuary in charge.
Clifford Goodrich, son of John and Cora (Green) Goodrich, was born July 31, 1894, in Valley County. He lived his entire life in the North Loup and Ord communities serving 33 years as a rural mail carrier from North Loup. He also served as an auctioneer in the area, was past president of the National Rural Mail Carriers Assn., Charter member of the North Loup Lions Club, charter member of the Elks Lodge in Ord, and a member of the North Loup I.O.O.F. Lodge. For three years he served as Valley County assessor and vice precinct assessor 12 years.
He and Eva Pierce were united in Marriage Dec. 18, 1913, at North Loup. She preceded him in death Nov. 3, 1964. On Oct. 14, 1966 he was married to Mrs. Alto Jones at Ord and since that time he has made his home here.
Survivors are his wife; three sons, Charles and Ronald of North Loup and Paul of Tacoma, Wash.; five daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Stanghelli, San Francisco, Calif.; Mrs. Doris Barber, Lark Spur, Colo.; Mrs. Beverly Stillman, Albuquerque, N. M.; Mrs. Ersel Jorgenson and Mrs. Frances Van Horn, North Loup; 26 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lorenzo Goodrich of Hastings and Melford Goodrich of Babylon, N. Y.; one sister, Mrs. Berta Barber, Kenesaw. He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
