Cleo Brock

Cleo Nancy Bell Brock went to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at 8:50 p.m. A "valentine," born Feb. 14, 1907 in Whitener, Ark., she grew up in and around Poteau and Le Flore counties in Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by: her father, Arthur Hancock, and mother, Laura Jane Hale-Hancock; her two sisters, Elsie Eunice (Mrs. Dewey) Peters, of Poteau, and Nettie Geneva (Mrs. Earnest) Crabtree, of Sapulpa; two of her brothers, Hubert "Hub" "Jack" Hancock, of Oklahoma City, and T.J. Hancock, of Cordova, Miss.; her husband of 69 years, James William "Bill" Brock, of Sapulpa; her son, A.J. "John" Brock, of Sapulpa; and her son-in-law, Charles Francis "Beany" Bean, of Sapulpa.

Cleo married the love of her life, J.W. "Bill" Brock, Nov. 25, 1922 in Poteau at the young age of 15. She was a homemaker in the true sense of the word. Her family (which included many friends) were always welcomed with open arms and a giving heart. She was always cooking, and even if you came into her house after having just eaten, she thought she had to feed you. She spent many hours raising and caring not only for her own two children and five grandchildren, but for all of their friends as well.

Cleo and Bill helped establish the First Free Will Baptist Church on the corner of James and Ridgeway Streets. They especially loved working with the children and youth groups over many years there. Most recently, Cleo felt that she had two church homes: the Free Will Baptist Church and the First Church of God in Sapulpa. They both counted her as a member and visited her at home since she was unable to attend.

Cleo is survived by: one brother, Cecil Hancock, and wife, Margie, of Poteau; one half-sister, Arthina Christiansen, and her husband, Don, of Eufaula; her daughter, Doris Bean, of the home; five grandchildren, Nancy Halderman, of Sapulpa, Sandra Miller, of Bixby, Susan Hutson and husband Terry, of Tulsa, Sheryl Montgomery and husband Chuck, of Tulsa, and Jim Brock and wife Penny, of Sapulpa; seven great-grandchildren, John Miller and wife Jennifer, of Jenks, Glen Miller and wife Bara, of Clearwater, Fla., Destiny Rodriguez and husband Juan, of Tulsa, April Youell, of Owasso, Eric Montgomery and wife Danielle, of Sapulpa, Christina Voss and husband Josh, of Sapulpa, and Angela Lawrence and husband Adrian, of Sapulpa; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was loved by family, friends and neighbors and will be greatly missed by all.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2006 at Sapulpa First Church of God with the Rev. Ken Price and the Rev. Troy Holifield officiating.

Casketbearers were Ed Willingham Sr., Tony Gammel, the Rev. Herb Adams, Rick Russell, Lt. Terry Russell and Steve Fowler. Honorary bearers were John Douglas, Marvin Wright, Cecil Gale and the Rev. Tom Ed Hill. Interment followed at South Heights Cemetery in Sapulpa.

Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. -http://www.sapulpadailyherald.com
