    Clay Fortner, 96 of Danville passed away at Accolade Healthcare in Danville on August 8, 2023.

    Clay was born on July 16, 1927 in Danville, IL the son of Harry and Mary Ruth (Laughner) Fortner. He married Loretta Hamblin and she preceded him in death on August 13, 2011. He later married Helen Redenbaugh on May 21, 1966 and she preceded him in death on October 14, 2007.

    Survivors include his daughters, Amy Tolson of Danville, IL and Rita Hannan of Ellenton, FL, four grandchildren, Zachary, Quentin, Christopher (Crissy) Hannan and Bryan Hannan as well as five great grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren.

    Clay is preceded in death by his parents, two spouses and one sister, Alma Odelle.

    Clay served in the United States Air Force and is retried from the Illiana Veterans Affairs Medical Center where he was a painter. In his free time he enjoyed bowling, pitching horseshoes, riding his bicycle, taking long walks and having coffee at Steak 'n Shake as well as sitting on his back porch.

    Per his wishes, A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Bethel Cemetery in Alvin, IL with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post 210. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834 is assisting the family with arrangements.
