OBITUARY: Rome Citizen 1887 KNIGHT - In Rome, New York, on January 23, 1887, CLARK KNIGHT, aged 90 years and 10 months. (RCJan28/1887) (obit follows) Died at a Ripe Age. Clark Knight, who was probably the oldest native Roman at the time of his death, died last Sunday, (January 23, 1887) at the home of his son, Walter C. Knight, 114 James street, aged nearly 91 years. For his years he had been unusually healthy, and might be seen on our streets almost any day of the year. His death was the result of a severe cold contracted ten or twelve days before, and terminating in pneumonia. Deceased was born in Wright Settlement, in this town (Rome, NY), March 14, 1796, and lived there till 1864, when he removed into the city. His father, Col. Daniel W. Knight, came to Rome from Connecticut in 1790, being one of the early settlers of the town. Deceased was a soldier of the war of 1812, and though very young, rose to the rank of colonel. He was by trade a carpenter, and continued to busy himself in the manufacture of mallets and other wooded articles up to the last year of his life. He had been for many years a member of the Presbyterian Church. He leaves two sons, Walter C. Knight of Rome, New York, and Henry W. Knight of Nashua, Iowa, and also a brother, Daniel W. Knight of Wright Settlement. (RCJan28/1887)
