  1. ↑ Served with the US Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1945. He served as an B-17 mechanic with the 385th Bomb Group located in Great Ashfield Suffolk, UK. He flew in the Munster Raids over Nazi occupied Holland as rear-waist gunner in October 1943. His plane was shot down and he was taken POW to Stalag Luft 3 in Bavaria, Germany. He was released on May 3, 1945.
