Eldon Root, 79, of Modesto died Friday at Valley Comfort.
Mr. Root was a native of Elk City, Okla., and had lived in Modesto since 1948 and previously had lived in Waterford and Empire since 1929. He was a self-employed farmer for 51 years. He was a 1945 graduate of Modesto High School. He was a member and a deacon for Old German Baptist Brethren Church. He enjoyed reading, singing, camping and working with young people.
He is survived by his wife, of Modesto; children, , all of Modesto; brothers, of Flora, Ind., and of Pasco, Wash.; sisters, of Wickenburg, Ariz., , both of Modesto, and , Ohio; and four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.
Visitation from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the family residence at . A funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Modesto District Meetinghouse of the Old German Baptist Brethren Church, Modesto. Burial at Wood Colony Cemetery. Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
