Mrs. Clara E. Custer, 86, of Berlin RD 4, died Aug. 14, 1973. Born Feb. 7, 1887, in Fairhope Township, she was a daughter of the late Norman and Lydia (Poorbaugh) Kennell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel E. Custer, in 1943, and a son, John. Surviving are these children: Mrs. Phyllis Hoppert, Berlin; Leonard, Inglewood, Calif.; Kenneth, Berlin; Mrs. Walter (Leona) Miller, Jerome; Russell, Mrs. Earl (Helen) Miller, Mrs. Edison (Evelyn) Baughman and Melvin Custer, all of Berlin RD; and Mrs. Eugene (Faye) Saylor, Rockville, Md.; 38 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Tessie McCord, Monroeville. She was a member of Salem Brethren Church. Funeral service was held Friday afternoon in Johnson and Son Funeral Home, Berlin, with Rev Kenneth R. Blough officiating. Interment in Berlin IOOF Cemetery.
