About 2-1/2 years after her mother's death when she was 12 years old, Clara wrote her Aunt Jane Love: "You asked me in one of your letters if ma had any of the Canadas folks pictures When She died / She had some pictures but they have all got lost / I Will send you one / I do not know Who it is / Maby you Will know. she had two of yours and one of Uncles Joels When She died / I have got them yet and Would love to have another one" 1880 Boone Co., IN, census, p.99A, Jefferson Twp., June 3, 1880, Robt. As she grew older, Clara spent several summers with her Aunt Sarah (Harvey's sister) and Uncle Eli Bundy. Clara wrote her Aunt Jane Love: "I do not know whether I will go and stay with Aunt Sarah this Summar or not but I expect I will and help her do her work / she has not been very stout far the last two or three Summers and is not able to do her work some of the time . . . I was glad to get Ma picture / it does not look very much like her to me but I reckon it looks like she did then but I am glad to get it any way. I can always have it and say it is her picture. . . . you wanted to know how tall I am and how much I weighed / I have not been weighed for some time but the last time I was weighed I weighed 85 eighty five pounds and I am five feet tall. I was sixteen years old the seventeenth of march. Eddie is taller and bigger then I am and likes two years beeing as old as I am." 1885 June 7, Burlington, Coffey Co., KS. Lydia Love wrote her sister Jane Love: "I never hear from Clara / is She at home and where is Eddie / would Love to see them / I wish harve would Pay me that (?)11 dolars he owes me but I Supose I can do without it" Included in a box of the letters were miscellaneous pieces of paper with handwritten notes.
