Mary and Christopher Rawson Penfold of Steyning in Sussex England arrived in South Australia on 18 June 1844 on ship 'Taglioni'. With them they brought precious vine cuttings from the Rhone area of France, and later founded Penfold's Wines at Magill.

Christopher Rawson Penfold was born in Steyning in 1811, the youngest of 11 children. He studied medicine at St Bartholomew's Hospital, London. Graduated in 1838.
