According to L.H. Almy,

Christopher owned farms and ships. He sailed to New Jersey on various occasions and may have been engaged in the "sugar, rum and slave" trade. He seems to have been somewhat ruthless in his business dealings as evidenced by his treatment of his relatives when he attempted to seize possession of his deceased brother Job's patrimony. His parents were aware of his grasping disposition and were inclined to favor his brother Job. However, Christopher's ability in governmental affairs was highly respected as he in later years was what might be called a colonial senator and was sent to England by the colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantation in 1693 to present the grievances of the colony to the Crown.[3]
