John BLACK was born 17apr1800 in Glasgow. John BLACK (b. abt 1800) of Maxwellton Place, Gorbals, Lanarkshire married 20jun1825 Christina CRAWFORD (born about 1804) in Gorbals (Latter Day Saints submission). According to the 1841 census John BLACK, merchant, aged 40, lived at South Woodside, Barony parish, with his wife, aged 35, their children and 3 female servants. At Parkholm, where they previously lived, there was a printfield works (glasgowstory website).
