Chesley Dugger was born in Effingham Co., GA as proven by his 1860 census entry which gives the county and state. His approximate birth year is less specific. He was listed twice on the 1850 census, once as age 38 (born ca 1811/12) and also as age 27 (born ca 1822/23). In 1860 he was 40, or born ca 1819/1820. I don't know which is more accurate.

Chesley's parents are unproven, but it is clear he was named for the older Chesley Dugger (c1782) who could be his father, or perhaps an uncle.

On 23 May 1849 Chesley Dugger married Mary E. Clifton in Chatham Co., GA.

They were listed twice on the 1850 census, both times in Chatham County. The entries were slightly different.

They were on the 1860 census in Chatham Co., GA. He was listed clearly as "Christopher" instead of Chesley. This census taker recorded the county of birth as well as the state. Very helpful.
